MOSCOW, December 28 (R-Sport) – Russia grabbed its second win at its home world junior hockey championships Friday, defeating the United States 2-1.

Russia climbs to the top of Group B to join Canada, which survived an early scare to register a 6-3 comeback win over Slovakia earlier in the day.

The US stands third with three points from Thursday’s 8-0 thrashing of Latvia.

Russia's Albert Yarullin scored an early opener with a brilliant one-timer to add to his overtime goal that brought a 3-2 win over Slovakia in the first game.

But the Americans leveled it in the second period through Jacob Trouba, No. 9 draft pick in 2012, who buried a rebound for his second goal of the tournament.

Forward Vladimir Tkachev won it for Russia on 46 minutes, ramming home a loose puck after Valery Nichushkin had weaved his way past four Americans.

Next up for the Russians is Germany, which has shipped 17 goals in its first two games, while the US faces Canada.

Earlier, Sweden had to sweat to snatch a 3-2 win on penalty shots over Switzerland, while the Czech Republic grabbed its first win at the tournament defeating Finland 3-1.
