Cross-Country: Legkov Wins in Kuusamo

Russian skier Alexander Legkov won the 10-kilometer freestyle cross-country race in the second round of the FIS Cross-Country World Cup on Saturday.

MOSCOW, December 1 (R-Sport) – Russian skier Alexander Legkov won the 10-kilometer freestyle cross-country race in the second round of the FIS Cross-Country World Cup on Saturday.

Legkov, 29, finished in 21 minutes 52.8 seconds at the event in Kuusamo, Finland.

Double Olympic champion Petter Northug of Norway claimed the silver 6.8 seconds behind, with France’s Maurice Manificat third, 7.9 seconds back.

In the women's five-kilometer freestyle, Marit Bjorgen of Norway clinched first place in 12 minutes, 2.9 seconds, finishing 22.7 seconds ahead of Kikkan Randall of the United States.

Russia's Yulia Tchekaleva trailed by 24.5 seconds for third place.

The round ends Sunday.

Russia's Vancouver Olympic champion Nikita Kriukov claimed individual sprint gold on Friday.
