Ex-Narcotics Officer Convicted of Trafficking

A court in central Russia’s Voronezh region has sentenced a former officer of the Federal Drug Control Service to eight and a half years in prison for drug trafficking, the Investigative Committee said on Tuesday.

VORONEZH, January 27 (RIA Novosti) - A court in central Russia’s Voronezh region has sentenced a former officer of the Federal Drug Control Service to eight and a half years in prison for drug trafficking, the Investigative Committee said on Tuesday.

The officer ran an operation trading in marijuana and poppy straw, using the services of two drug addicts with previous convictions and another ex-convict.

The drug ring was busted in 2010.

Other members of the ring were sentenced to prison terms from five to five and a half years.
