Police have arrested “loads” of Spartak Moscow fans after disturbances at their match away to FC Volga, the deputy head of Nizhny Novgorod police said Saturday.

NIZHNY NOVGOROD, Russia, November 17 (R-Sport) - Police have arrested “loads” of Spartak Moscow fans after disturbances at their match away to FC Volga, the deputy head of Nizhny Novgorod police said Saturday.

Spartak fans threw pyrotechnics throughout the match, causing the game to be briefly interrupted amid thick smoke, and were warned about their conduct by police.

“There are loads of arrests and they are continuing,” police official Andrei Shmonin said.

Stadium management said Spartak fans had broken 520 seats.

Around 7,000 Spartak fans outnumbered the 3,000 Volga fans in attendance, Shmonin said.

Police later detained 35 fans near Moscow, mostly for being drunk, at the Dynamo-Zenit game, which was abandoned after Dynamo goalkeeper Anton Shunin was hit by a smoke bomb thrown from the crowd.
