MOSCOW, November 7 (R-Sport) - Uzbek wrestler Soslan Tigiev has been stripped of his bronze medal from the London 2012 Olympics after failing a drug test, the International Olympic Committee said Wednesday.

Tigiev won bronze in the men’s 74 kilogram freestyle wrestling in August, beating Hungary’s Gabor Hatos 3-0 on points in the medal bout.

“Immediately after his participation in the event on 10 August, Tigiev, 29, provided a urine sample that tested positive for the prohibited substance methylhexaneamine,” the IOC said in a statement.

Hatos will now receive the bronze.

Jordan Burroughs of the United States took gold in the event while Iran’s Saeed Goudarzi clinched the silver medal. The second bronze medal went to Russia’s Denis Tsargush, who beat Canadian wrestler Matt Gentry.

Tigiev, the 2008 Beijing Olympycs silver medalist, is the second athlete to be stripped of a London Olympics medal after Belarus shot putter Nadzeya Ostapchuk had her gold medal withdrawn for testing positive for metenolone, a banned anabolic steroid.

Valerie Adams of New Zealand was proclaimed the Olympic champion in her place.
