Sudan will continue supporting “brothers in Palestine” despite an attack of Israeli warplanes on an arms factory in Khartoum last week, Sudanese president’s aide Nafia Ali Nafia said.

A fire broke out late on Tuesday at the Yarmouk arms factory in the south of Khartoum following a series of explosions that the Sudanese authorities believe were caused by an air strike delivered by four Israeli warplanes. Israel denied the accusations and called Sudan a "dangerous terrorist state".

“The Israeli attacks will never force Sudan to abandon support of our brothers in Palestine,” Nafia said at a reception organized on the occasion of Eid-al-Adha on Sunday.

Nafia, who is also a deputy chairman of the ruling National Congress party, has defended Sudan’s support of Hamas in the past.

Israel suspects Sudan of smuggling weapons to Gaza Strip, which has been under control of the radical Islamist group since 2007, through Egypt.

The Sudanese authorities have accused Israel of at least three air strikes on Sudan in the past two years.

However, Sudan’s opposition claims that allegations of Israeli attacks serve Khartoum’s propaganda of "external enemies" to fuel nationalist feelings and rally popular support despite its repressive domestic policy.
