A Russian woman vacationing in Crimea is being celebrated as the six millionth tourist to visit the region so far this year, more than in any full year since Ukrainian independence, the head of the Crimean parliamentary commission on tourism said.
“Six million tourists in Crimea! That’s a record!” Rustam Temirgaliyev said on his Facebook page.
“The six millionth tourist is a bookkeeper from Nizhny Novgorod” who has received a voucher for a free stay at a Crimean resort complex next year, he said.
In recent years, Crimea has recorded just under 6 million tourists for the full year.
Crimea, whose southern coastal region enjoys a subtropical climate, remains a favored destination for vacationers from throughout the former Soviet Union.
