A goal either side of half time saw Rubin Kazan canter to a 2-0 win over Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League on Thursday.

Rubin's Turkish winger Gokdeniz Karadeniz fired the hosts ahead in spectacular fashion on 44 minutes, driving into the corner with Vladimir Stojkovic rooted to the spot.

Alexander Ryazantsev doubled the lead three minutes after the restart, slotting under Stojkovic to round off a neat three-pass move.

Rubin share the lead in Group H on four points with Inter Milan, who beat minnows Neftci Baku 3-1 in Azerbaijan.

Partizan are bottom on goal difference, with Neftci third.

Rubin forward Jose Salomon Rondon had two glaring opportunities to score inside the first two minutes, but dragged wide from 18 yards before having an effort blocked.

The home side went on to control the tempo of the first half while allowing the visitors the odd counterattack.

Nikola Ninkovic stung the palms of Rubin goalkeeper Sergei Ryzhikov from distance on the half hour.

Karadeniz had a fierce volley blocked for Rubin before he opened the scoring. He then collected a spilled Roman Eremenko shot to round two defenders and fire home.

The half ended as it started, with Venezuelan forward Rondon missing a double chance.

Striker Ryazantsev, who was cut from Fabio Capello's final 24-man Russia squad for next week's World Cup qualifiers against Portugal and Azerbaijan, turned provider moments later with a sublime backheel to allow right-back Oleg Kuzmin a strike that was clawed away by Stojkovic.

Partizan coach Vladimir Vermezovic sought to turn the tide on the hour mark, throwing on teenage striker Aleksandar Mitrovic in place of midfielder Ninkovic.

Kurban Berdyev's side had the better of the latter exchanges, however, and saw out the clock to maintain their record of never having lost a group stage game at home in any UEFA competition.

Rubin were denied a famous win at the San Siro against Inter Milan in their opener last month when Yuto Nagatomo hit a 92nd-minute volley to salvage a 2-2 draw.

The third round of games is October 25, when Rubin host Neftci and Partizan travel to Milan.
