Fabio Fognini of Italy beat Spanish underdog Daniel Gimeno-Traver to reach the final of the St. Petersburg Open on Saturday.

Fourth seed Fognini, the world No. 53, beat his unseeded opponent 6-3, 6-4.

“Daniel started better than me, but I managed to make a break and level the play,” Fognini said on the tournament’s website.

“Now I want to win this tournament.”

The final is Fognini’s second of the season after losing to Gilles Simon in Bucharest while he was recovering from injury in April.

Fognini will now face either Russian top seed Mikhail Youzhny or Martin Klizan of Slovakia, seeded third, after they play in the other semifinal later Saturday.

The prize fund for the tournament is over $410,000.
