An 89th-minute goal from Igor Pikushchak gave Amkar Perm all three points in a 3-2 comeback win against spirited visitors FC Volga in the Russian Premier League on Monday.

The win pushes Amkar from ninth to sixth place, one point behind Zenit St. Petersburg and Lokomotiv Moscow, who share fourth. Volga, meanwhile, remain 15th and in the relegation zone after eight games.

Pikushchak had some luck with his winning strike, which took a hefty deflection to loop over Volga goalkeeper Ilya Abaev.

Earlier, Bulgaria winger Georgi Peev had opened the scoring from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time, when Mihaita Plesan landed a flying kick on Pavel Ignatovich.

Two minutes after the break, Volga responded through Alexei Sapogov, who threaded the ball between goalkeeper Sergei Narubin and the near post off a low cross from Ilya Maximov.

Volga took a 2-1 lead when left-back Gia Grigalava scored with a 65th-minute free-kick that deflected off the wall.

Peev scored a second penalty on 75 minutes after the referee adjudged Alexander Kharitonov had fouled Nikola Mijailovic, despite the Volga player seeming to take the ball cleanly.

The decision prompted vehement protests from the Volga players, delaying the game by several minutes.

For Amkar, the match was their first since selling inspirational forward Nikita Burmistrov to Anzhi last week after the 23-year-old scored three goals in Amkar’s first seven games of the season.

Amkar take an unbeaten run to five games, while it was Volga's seventh match without a win.
