Brazil striker Vagner Love could be set for a surprise return to CSKA Moscow in the winter, the Russian club’s general director Roman Babaev suggested Sunday.
Brazilian daily Jornal da Midia claimed Saturday in an unsourced report that Vagner Love's current club Flamengo were looking to sell the player to relieve financial problems. It said Vagner Love could be looking for an exit to recoup inflated sums he has spent on property.
“Let’s wait until winter,” Babaev said when asked about the rumors, in an apparent reference to the opening of the next Russian transfer window.
“We keep in constant contact with Vagner, but this chat is still premature and has no basis.”
Babaev added that Vagner Love’s return was possible.
“You can’t rule out anything. Moreover, Vagner proved everything to everyone long ago and I won’t say that we would refuse his return.”
Vagner Love joined Flamengo from CSKA in January in a deal reportedly worth €10 million after becoming the top-scoring foreigner in the history of the Russian league during eight years with CSKA.
Flamengo are 16th of 20 teams in the Brazilian top flight after 23 games, during which Vagner Love has scored 10 times in 22 appearances.
Last month, the team signed ex-Brazil forward Adriano on a free transfer.
Vagner Love has 21 caps for Brazil, scoring five goals.
