Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is expected to sign a contract extension with Juventus that will keep him in Turin until 2016, Italian daily La Gazzetta dello Sport reported on Sunday.

By the terms of the deal, which the newspaper claimed would be signed on Thursday at the latest, the 34-year-old will be earning around €4 million per year.

Buffon joined Juventus from Parma in 2001 and has played in Turin ever since, making 325 appearances for the team and helping them win Serie A titles in 2002, 2003 and 2012, and three Italian Super Cups in the same years.

He is also an Italy international from 1997 with 121 caps.

Juventus won their first two games of the season and stand top of the table on goal difference.

Buffon was in goal for Italy’s 2014 World Cup qualifier with Bulgaria on Friday, which the sides drew 2-2.

He was in the Italy side that lost 4-0 to Spain in the Euro 2012 final in July.
