Double Olympic champion Russian biathlete Anna Bogaliy-Titovets announced her retirement to R-Sport on Thursday.

She won women’s relay gold at the 2006 and 2010 Winter Olympics and world and European relay titles in a career spanning 12 years.

“I’ve been thinking a lot considering the situation from different angles. Finally I’ve decided to retire as a professional biathlete,” Bogaliy-Titovets told R-Sport.

The 33-year-old said she wanted to spend time with her family.

“I want to see my son grow up. My desire to be with my family is the main reason for my retirement. I want to pay as much attention and time to my son as possible.”

The former Olympic champion said that she was going to start teaching at a university in the Siberian city of Novosibirsk and promote children’s sport in Russia.

Bogaliy-Titovets’ best personal result on the World Cup tour was fifth in the general classification in the 2003-04 season, when she won two events and made the podium on 14 occasions.
