Two police officers were killed in Russia’s North Caucasus republic of Dagestan on Tuesday, the Investigative Committee said.

Two police officers were killed in Russia’s North Caucasus republic of Dagestan on Tuesday, the Investigative Committee said.

The two bodies were found with gunshot wounds to the head in the republic’s capital, Makhachkala.

The assailants escaped.

 

Last Tuesday, two traffic police were killed in a drive-by shooting in the Dagestani city of Khasavyurt.

 

Earlier that day a police officer in the republic’s town of Buinaksk was seriously injured in a car bomb blast.

 

Clashes between government security forces and militant Islamic groups have become a routine occurrence in Dagestan and other North Caucasus republics.
