China's Wu Jingyu defended her flyweight Olympic taekwondo gold in devastating fashion on Wednesday.

The two-time world champion thrashed Spain's three-time world champion Brigitte Yague Enrique 8-1 in the final, winning the first round 4-0 and never looking back.

"It feels really good to be an Olympic champion again," said Wu. "It's not just my work that brought me here, it's the whole of China."

The defeated Spaniard was content enough with silver.

"I'm a bit disappointed of course that I couldn't get a gold medal, but an Olympic silver medal is just fantastic," she said.

The division's two bronze medals went to Lucija Zaninovic of Croatia and Thailand's Chanatip Sonkham in earlier bouts.
