A debut goal from Luis Caballero gave Krylya Sovetov a share of the points against Terek Grozny with a 1-1 draw in their first game of the season Sunday.

Oleg Ivanov had given Terek the edge on 56 minutes, picking up the ball 20 yards out and hitting a low shot that goalkeeper Sergei Veremko got a hand to but was unable to keep out.

Caballero struck from the penalty spot on 82 minutes after Adilson handballed.

Krylya spurned several good chances, most notably on four minutes when Caballero’s fellow Paraguayan Pablo Zeballos got in behind Terek goalkeeper Anton Amelchenko but failed to apply the finish, and Caballero hit the bar on the rebound.

Terek rattled the woodwork at the other end on 14 minutes as Marcin Komorowski struck the base of the post from Belgian midfielder Jonathan Legear’s cross.

On 23 minutes, Zeballos forced a diving save from Amelchenko with a curling free-kick.

The game was stopped for several minutes on the half-hour with Terek’s Legear bleeding heavily from a gash on his face after clashing heads with Krylya’s French defender Steeve Joseph-Reinette.

Legear was unable to continue and replaced by striker Stanislav Murikhin.

Just before Ivanov gave Terek the edge, Amelchenko saved his team at the other end with a diving one-handed stop to deny Artyom Delkin a headed goal from Pyotr Nemov’s corner.

Both teams missed chance to win the game, with Igor Lebedenko slicing wide from close range for Terek on 76 minutes, and Caballero hitting the ball at Amelchenko two minutes after his equalizer.
