On Sunday, Tokyo hosted a donor conference attended by delegates from some 80 countries and international organizations. As a pre-conditioning for the endowment, donors called on Kabul to implement reforms to fight corruption.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai visited the conference along with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon for talks focused on the so-called "transformation decade" after the NATO pullout.

On Saturday, the United States has gave Afghanistan the status of "major non-NATO ally", reinforcing its message to Afghans that the two countries will maintain defense and economic ties even after American military’s withdrawal.
