Two Russian Emergencies Ministry’s aircraft brought to Moscow 25 Russian pilgrims, who were injured in a bus crash in Ukraine on Saturday, a spokesman for the ministry said on Sunday.

Fourteen people were killed after the bus carrying 43 pilgrims from Russia’s Pskov Region to Ukraine’s Pochayiv Lavra (large monastery) swerved off the road crashing into a ditch.

The spokesman for the ministry said that one of the planes, Ilyushin Il-76, brought 14 people, who suffered serious injuries. The plane was met by 20 ambulance engines, which immediately took the injured to various hospitals of Moscow.

The other plane, Yakovlev Yak-42, carried 11 more people, who did not sustain serious injuries, and 14 bodies of those killed in the crash, he added.

Three more passengers from the crashed bus remain in intensive care wards of Ukrainian hospitals as doctors prohibited their transportation due to the risk to their lives. One more passenger also remains in Ukraine in the interests of the launched investigation into the crash.

According to one of the investigation’s preliminary versions, the accident took place as the driver had fallen asleep eventually losing control of the vehicle.
