Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras appointed Yannis Stournaras as the new finance minister on Tuesday, the Greek Government's official representative said.
The Prime Minister's previous choice, National Bank of Greece head Vasilis Rapanos, declined the post on Monday citing health problems.
Greece is seeking swift negotiations with its creditors from the European Union and International Monetary Fund over fiscal reforms in exchange for loans to it, which have stalled due the political instability in the country in the past few months.
