Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on Saturday that introduces a three-level alarm system of terrorism threat, the Kremlin’s press service said.

“In order to timely inform people about the emergence of a terrorism threat and to organize activities to counter its realization, the following levels of the terrorism threat can be imposed on the specific Russian territories: blue level for elevated alert, yellow one for high alert, red one for critical alert,” the Kremlin said in a statement.

The decree will come into force from the day of its official publication.

In May, 2011 then president, Dmitry Medvedev signed into law amendments to the federal bill on countering terrorism, which introduced the three color-coded levels of terrorism, similar to those used in the United States.

A substantial terrorism threat will be marked by a dark blue indicator, a severe threat by yellow, and a critical threat by red.
