KHL team Avangard Omsk's coach Raimo Summanen has extended his contract by one year after refusing repeated offers of a two-year deal, general manager Vladimir Kapuloksky told R-Sport on Tuesday.

The Finn reached an agreement with last season's Gagarin Cup losing finalist after a lengthy day of talks, Kapuloksky said.

"We offered Raimo a two-year contract, but he expressed a desire to sign an agreement only for a year," he said.

"And then we will see."

Summanen, 50, succeeded Igor Nikitin as Avangard head coach in 2010.

Avangard was one game from victory in the best-of-seven Gagarin Cup final series against Dynamo Moscow when defenseman Anton Belov tested positive for a banned stimulant and was suspended.

Dynamo won the next three games to steal the title 4-3 in dramatic fashion.
