The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has uncovered an arms cache allegedly belonging to militants in the southern city of Volgograd, the FSB said on Friday without specifying the date of the seizure.

The cache, found in a garage in a residential area, contained dozens of guns, over 9,000 cartridges for them, 5.2 kilograms of TNT and four grenade launchers with 40 grenades, the FSB said in a statement.

 

“According to the examination, the seized weapons are in working order. The information about its possible use in planning a terrorist attack in the region is being checked,” the security services said in the statement.

 

A criminal case has been launched into the illegal acquisition, storage, transportation and possession of arms, which provides for a prison term of up to six years.
