Spanish sixth seed David Ferrer reached the fourth round of the French Open with ease on Sunday, dealing a resounding straight-sets thrashing to Russian No. 1 Mikhail Youzhny.

Youzhny, the 28th seed and last Russian left in the men's side of the Roland Garros draw, won just four games as the clay-court specialist dominated on his way to a 6-0, 6-2, 6-2 victory.

Ferrer will now face either fellow Spaniard and 20th seed Marcel Granollers or qualifier Paul-Henri Mathieu, who knocked out world No. 11 John Isner in the second round.

Elsewhere Sunday, Petra Kvitova battled past Russian world No. 109 Nina Bratchikova, winning 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 to set up a fourth round clash with either 2010 French Open champion Francesca Schiavone or Varvara Lepchenko of the United States.

Kazakhstan’s Yaroslava Shvedova knocked out Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain 6-4, 7-5 and will now face either reigning champion Li Na or Christina McHale of the United States.
