Maria Sharapova’s legions of fans should not expect to read their tennis idol’s musings on Twitter any time soon because it is just too much work, the world No. 2 said Friday.
Speaking after her 6-1, 6-1 thrashing of Ayumi Morita in the second round of the French Open, Sharapova said that she writes a lot of text messages on her cell phone, and had no desire to add to her burden by opening an account.
“It’s just too much for me right now, writing texts and tweets. In the course of a day I write too many messages,” Sharapova said.
Far from her glamorous image, Sharapova’s daily life was often dull, she said, and she did not want to expose the world to such banal events.
“Sometimes I get bored with myself, I mean everyday routine things like, for example, eating pasta in a restaurant.”
“I don’t think that the world should know or wants to know that I’m in a restaurant having dinner.”
Despite Sharapova’s bleak prognosis, she conceded it was possible she may take up tweeting in the future.
After beating Morita, Sharapova will now play 28th seed Shuai Peng in the third round.
