Ex-Liverpool striker Andriy Voronin is not a transfer target for Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk, the club's chief executive Sergei Palkin said Sunday.

Voronin was linked with Shakhtar in the Ukrainian media after he struggled to get first-team starts for Dynamo Moscow towards the end of the Russian season amid a goal drought stretching back to October.

"I learned about it on the Internet," Palkin said of the transfer rumors, in comments on the Shakhtar website.

"Many of my friends were sending me text messages asking me about this news. Honestly, at first, I did not even understand what they meant. Then I saw this article on the Internet. This information is incorrect."

Voronin, 32, moved to Dynamo in 2010 after struggling for playing time at Liverpool, and became the Moscow team's captain.

He scored 11 goals in 37 appearances in the 2011-12 Russian Premier League season as Dynamo finished third, but was dropped by coach Sergei Silkin after a period of poor form and a reported feud between the pair.

In May, he asked to play with the Dynamo reserves to ensure he retained match fitness for Euro 2012, where he will be in the squad for co-hosts Ukraine.

Voronin's contract at Dynamo runs until June 2014.
