The head of the Russian FA is setting the national team the goal of winning Euro 2012, he told RIA Novosti on Saturday.

Most bookmakers rank Russia around eighth favorite to win the event, with Germany and reigning champions Spain topping the predictions.

But Sergei Fursenko, head of the Russian Football Union, said he wants to upset the form guide.

"It would always be nice to take a step forward," he said, referring to the last Euro in 2008, when Russian made the semifinals.

"We'll be fighting for victory anyway at Euro 2012, so we'll see how it turns how. In any case, we're setting ourselves the goal of winning the Euro," he said.

Russia start their campaign June 8 against the Czech Republic in Wroclaw before traveling to Warsaw to face co-host Poland on June 12 and Greece four days later.
