Russia's hockey stars at the world championships in Sweden are being served frozen fish and overcooked meat at their Stockholm hotel, a source in the team told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.

The team has had problems since check-in last week at the Globe Hotel, next to the arena of the same name where some of the games are taking place.

Players including goaltender Konstantin Barulin told a RIA Novosti reporter staying at the same hotel that the rooms are too small, the pillows tiny, and the racket from nearby construction work bothers the team from dawn to dusk.

Now, the food, when it arrives on time, is improperly prepared, said the source, who asked not to be named.

"Once we were given frozen fresh fish," the source said. "In no way does the team food correspond with sporting norms. ... For several days we have been asked that our food isn't over-salted and over-spiced, that the meat isn't overcooked."

The Russians are not the only team dissatisfied with the hotel, the source said. Latvia, Italy and Denmark have also complained about the service, the source said.

Russia beat Latvia 5-2 in its opener on Saturday and followed that up with a 4-2 win over Norway, but the team failed to score in either of the first periods, something Russia center Alexander Svitov put down to nerves and a lack of concentration.

Russia is expected to make it three wins later Tuesday against a German team that beat Italy 3-0 but lost 3-2 to Latvia.

After the Germany game, Russia will play Denmark, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Italy. The top four of the eight teams in the group go through to the quarterfinals.
