Moscow city authorities have agreed to permit the May 6 March of Millions protest, including a march from Kaluzhskaya Square and a demonstration on Bolotnaya Square, Moscow deputy regional security chief Vasily Oleynik said on Thursday.

Moscow city authorities have agreed to permit the May 6 March of Millions protest, including a march from Kaluzhskaya Square and a demonstration on Bolotnaya Square, Moscow deputy regional security chief Vasily Oleynik said on Thursday.

"The mayor's office has agreed the March on May 6. A march from Kaluzhskaya Sq to Bolotnaya and a demonstration. Starting at 3:00 p.m. at Kaluzhskaya. The official document will be ready tomorrow," one of the March of Millions organizers, Left Front coordinator Sergei Udaltsov, said on his Twitter account.

"This is a good result," he said.

The March of Millions, protesting the results of parliamentary and presidential elections, will be held the day before Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is sworn in for a six-year term as president.

The rally organizers had initially applied for a march from one of Moscow's central squares and along one of its main streets toward Red Square and the walls of the Kremlin.

But City Hall rejected that route, proposing instead one that would take protesters along the banks of the Moscow River to Luzhniki Stadium, several kilometers from the Kremlin.

In turn, the protest organizers proposed yet another route, from Kaluzhskaya Square to Bolotnaya, a park where other protests have been held in recent months.

The May 6 rally will be attended by residents of Moscow and the surrounding Moscow region as well as other Russian regions, Udaltsov said.

“We are talking about tens of thousands of people,” the opposition leader said.
