Beijing silver medalist Nikita Lobintsev finished fourth in the Russian 200 meter freestyle swimming trials for the London Olympics on Thursday, failing to make the cut.

It was a second surprise failure for the 24-year-old, who also couldn't make the 400 meter team after finishing 13th in the trials on Tuesday.

Unlike the 400 meters, Lobintsev made the Olympic qualification time on Thursday, but won't go to London because Russia has only two berths in the 200 meter event.

The 200 meters was won by Danila Izotov in a time of 1 minute, 46.56 seconds, with Yevgeny Lagunov a second behind and Artem Lobuzov a further tenth of a second back.

Izotov won 200 meter relay gold and silvers at the 2010 world swimming championships, and swam with Lobintsev in Russia's silver medal-winning relay team in Beijing.

Lagunov was also on the 2010 worlds and Beijing relay team.
