Bolton Wanderers midfielder Fabrice Muamba has been discharged from hospital in London, where he had been treated since suffering a heart attack during an FA Cup game a month ago, the hospital and club said Monday.

The England youth international collapsed during Bolton’s game against Tottenham Hotspur on March 17, and his heart stopped for more than an hour.

Muamba praised staff at the London Chest Hospital and the fans around the world who took part in a campaign to pray for him.

“I am naturally very pleased to be discharged from hospital and would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to every single member of staff at the London Chest Hospital who have played a part in my care,” Muamba said in comments on the Bolton website.

"Their dedication, professionalism and expertise is simply amazing and I will forever be in their debt. I also wish to say thank you to all the many well-wishers who have sent thousands of messages of support.”

Bolton coach Owen Coyle said: “It is absolutely fantastic news that Fabrice has been discharged from hospital and everyone at the club is delighted.”

Congolese-born Muamba has played for England at every youth level. He joined Bolton from Birmingham in 2008 and has made 148 appearances for the club.
