Syrian army snipers on Monday injured three refugees who had taken shelter across the border in Turkey, Turkish NTV reported.

Almost 25,000 refugees have crossed from Syria into Turkey as Syrian forces crack down on a 13-month uprising against President Bashar al-Assad.

Later in the day six people were killed in clashes between rebel fighters and Syrian forces near the Turkish border.

More than 9,000 people have been killed in Syria since the breakout of a popular uprising against Assad in March 2011, the UN has estimated.

The Syrian authorities blame the unrest on “armed terrorist gangs” affiliated with al-Qaeda.
