Syrians need humanitarian aid worth of $70 million, the head of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) said on Saturday.
On March OIC that consists of 57 member states announced that official Damascus allowed providing humanitarian aid to Syrians affected by violence. Group of OIC and UN experts visited Syria to estimate the extent of necessary assistance. At the end of the mission specialists have prepared a report.
“Found that there are (in Syria) one million people affected by events and in need of an urgent humanitarian program worth $70 million. Now we are preparing a four-point program,” the head of OIC said.
He added that Syrians would get food, medical aid and financial support.
Syria has been the scene of continuous anti-government protests for more than a year. According to the United Nations, more than 9000 people have died in the unrest, which Syrian President Bashar al-Assad blames on "armed terrorist gangs."
