The pilot of a Bell 407 light helicopter died after his machine crashed in Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan on Friday, a local law enforcement official said.
“At 12:47 information came in from a local resident that the helicopter had been found near Yamash village, Almetyevsky Region,” the official said.
Rescuers are on the way to the crash scene, where the aircraft is on fire, he said. The pilot was the only person on board.
According to preliminary information, the helicopter was owned by the Ak Bars Aero company, a source involved in the investigation told RIA Novosti. The company is the official flight operator of the Tatarstan government.
The crash is the second involving a Bell 407 in Russia in two months. Another pilot died near Nizhny Novgorod last month after his machine crashed into the river Volga.
Later in the day a helicopter crashed in Karelia, northwest Russia. There were no fatalities but the two pilots and two passengers were injured, one seriously.
The wreckage was spotted from the air. The helicopter crash landed on a frozen lake but did not break through the ice.
