Kiev and Moscow agreed on Tuesday to use a laboratory in Ukraine to monitor the compliance of Ukrainian cheese quality with Russian requirements, Russia’s chief sanitary doctor Gennady Onishchenko said.

Kiev and Moscow agreed on Tuesday to use a laboratory in Ukraine to monitor the compliance of Ukrainian cheese quality with Russian requirements, Russia’s chief sanitary doctor Gennady Onishchenko said.

“We are ready to delegate our powers… to that laboratory so that it may ensure and guarantee the current level of Russia’s requirements for the Ukrainian market,” Onishchenko, who is also the head of consumer rights watchdog Rospotrebnadzor, told a briefing.

Rospotrebnadzor in February imposed a ban on the products of seven Ukrainian cheese plants saying they violated Russian milk and milk product standards, as the cheeses contained vegetable fats instead of animal fats whereas their labels did not reflect the information.

The Ukrainian producers said their products met all necessary requirements.

Oleh Lyashko, an independent deputy of Ukraine’s parliament known for his scandalous behavior, on Tuesday disrupted Onishchenko’s press conference, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported.

The deputy came to RIA Novosti’s Kiev office with cheese and sausage and started shouting obscenities addressing the Russian official, prompting Onishchenko to withdraw.
