New legislation passed on Friday prohibits persons convicted or formally charged under “extremist” statutes of the Russian penal code from providing commercial services to minors.
The ban applies to such spheres as education, training, medical services, recreational activities, sports and social security.
The lawmakers believe that the new law, submitted by the Russian president last October, will help prevent the spread of “extremist” behavior among children and young people.
The State Duma, the lower house of the Russian parliament, passed the bill in the third and final reading.
The law must be approved by the upper house, the Federation Council, and signed by the president before it enters into force.
