Georgia demolished Russia 46-0 in European Nations Cup rugby on Saturday in a commanding display that dented the Bears' hopes of winning the title this season.

The win took reigning champions Georgia top of the ENC table with 15 points, knocking Spain into joint second with Romania on 10 points each. Those two face off in Madrid later Saturday.

Russia suffered their second defeat of the campaign and remain in fourth on eight points.

Russia coach Kingsley Jones went into the game in the Georgian capital, Tbilisi, in the hope that victory would stand them in good stead for a surprise charge at the ENC season title.

Russia have two wins and two losses in this year's stage of the competition, which is considered a second-tier six nations.

The Bears started out with a last-gasp 33-32 away defeat of Portugal in February, losing to Romania 25-0 before beating Ukraine last week 38-19.

The last time Russia beat Georgia was a 15-9 win in Poland in 1993.

Russia next hosts Spain on May 19.
