An internet user from Siberia who posted a video of drunk Russians on Russian social networking website more than a year ago has been charged with extremism, investigator Boris Monaenkov said on Wednesday.

The 90-second video, headlined “The Whole Truth About Russians,” was posted on Russia’s most popular social network Vkontakte in 2010, but attracted police’s attention only last year. It shows a slideshow of young people smoking and drinking and of semi-nude women.

Its author and narrator, whose name was not disclosed, repeatedly states in the voiceover that all Russian women are prostitutes and men are alcoholics.

He now faces charges of “inciting hatred or animosity and undermining human dignity” which entail a maximum punishment of two years in prison.

Investigators say the “extremist” video has been deleted, but it is still easily accessible on the web.
