A draft bill was submitted to the Italian government on Thursday that would grant paternity leave for Italian fathers, the Ansa news agency reported.

The cabinet has until next Tuesday to review the proposals that would give dads three consecutive days paid during the infant's first five months.

Male employees are also entitled to take paternity leave and claim paternity pay eight hours per week for up to three years after the child is born, and to negotiate reduced hours with their companies.

The bill will then go before parliament and become effective 90 days after the final vote in the Senate.
