Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez will return to his country from a hospital in Cuba, where he is recovering from a surgery, early next week, Venezuelan news agency AVN reported citing the president of Colombia.

The agency reported that Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos visited Chavez during his official trip to Cuba.

“Chavez said he would wait for several days and then early next week plans to return to Venezuela,” AVN quoted Santos as saying.

Last week Cuban doctors operated on Chavez to remove a tumor. The new formation was detected in roughly the same spot where Chavez had a malignant tumor of the intestine that was removed in summer of 2011.

Former Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, as well as current President Dilma Rousseff and Paraguay's leader Fernando Lugo have all been diagnosed with cancer in recent years.
