Police have detained around 20 activists in downtown Moscow on Tuesday, the Interior Ministry reported.

Police have detained around 20 activists in downtown Moscow on Tuesday, the Interior Ministry reported.

“A group of citizens planned to organize a provocation in the center of the capital. Information on the event was posted in certain social networks. The attempt to disrupt law and order in the city was stopped,” the ministry said.

“Several people gathered near Pushkinskaya Square, where they were promptly detained by Moscow police officers,” it said. “About 20 people were brought to police stations.”

The events follow Monday’s authorized opposition rally against Prime Minister and president-elect Vladimir Putin’s election on Sunday for a third non-consecutive term in office that turned into an unsanctioned demonstration resulting in the detention of about 250 people.
