Russia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) has received two complaints over alleged violations of the “day of silence” prior to Sunday’s presidential elections, when any form of election propaganda is prohibited, CEC head Vladimir Churov said.

“There are two complaints over violations of the silence day. They were received at night. We don’t even have a video recording yet,” Churov told journalists, without commenting further.

Five candidates - Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, Communist leader Gennady Zyuganov, nationalist Liberal Democratic Party head Vladimir Zhirinovsky, A Just Russia Party leader Sergei Mironov and the only independent, billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov - vie for the Russian presidency in the March 4 vote.
