A man who on Feb. 13 locked himself into a restroom in Amsterdam’s busy Schiphol Airport claiming to have a bomb is a Russian citizen, Dutch media reported on Tuesday, referring to police sources.

Heavily armed military police detained the 40-year-old Russian on Monday. The man told passers-by he had a bomb before locking himself into a toilet above the airport's terminal one and two departure halls. Dozens of flights were delayed and the incident sparked the evacuation of two terminals.

However, it turned out that the man had no explosives. State broadcaster NOS quoted police as saying the suspect wasn't carrying any identification and communication with him was proving difficult.

The man, whose name has not been revealed, remains in custody for further investigation by Dutch police.

The Russian embassy in the Netherlands has so far declined to comment.
