Two women from Russia’s Orenburg Region have sued the local maternity hospital where they were born in 1975 for allegedly swapping them at birth, a regional court said.

The plaintiffs – stated in the court press release as Arkhipova N.M. and Buanova O.V. - were raised in Belyayevka village, Orenburg Region. Village residents say they never resembled their parents.

Once, the women underwent a genetic test that revealed that the people thought to be their mothers and fathers were not genetically related to them.

It transpired that at birth the two babies were swapped by midwives in the hospital. Each of the plaintiff's demands three million rubles (over $100,000) in compensation for “moral trauma.”
