Armenia goalkeeper Roman Berezovsky, who was sent off in his country's 2-1 defeat to Ireland in October's Euro 2012 qualifying decider, has claimed to be close to a move back to one of his former sides, Dinamo Moscow.

Berezovsky, 37, a former Dinamo, Zenit St. Petersburg and Torpedo Moscow stopper, had been playing out the remainder of his career for second division Moscow region team Khimki.

The Yerevan-born keeper, who produced a series of acclaimed performaces in Armenia's ultlimately unsuccessful Euro 2012 qualifying campaign, told Russian daily Sport-Express that on Wednesday he would sign for Dinamo, where he made 88 appearances between 2002 and 2005.

“A return to Dinamo is a new calling for me," he was quoted as saying.." I’ve already played for the white and blues [Dinamo]. The fans haven’t forgotten me, even after I left the club.”

He added: “The contract with Khimki has already been torn up. The agreement with Dinamo will be signed as soon as possible, tomorrow.”

Berezovsky inadvertantly garnered fame for his controversial red card for handling the ball outside his area against Ireland in Dublin. Replays apeared to show no handball.

He started playing professionally in the last season of the Soviet league in 1991, and has accumulated 67 caps for Armenia in a 16-year international career.

He was named the best goalkeeper in Russian football in 1997 and won the Russian Cup with Zenit in 1999.

Berezovsky's one remaining goal in the game is to play Champions League football.

“If it happens that I can take part again in Champions League matches, my happiness will double. The Champions League is every footballers’ dream.”
