A crocodile has attacked and eaten a ten-year-old girl in eastern Indonesia while she was playing at the bank of the Wailolong river, The Jakarta Post reported on Saturday.
A ten-year-old Juraida was hunting for turtles with her father and brother when a wild crocodile leered up and snatched the girl, The Jakarta Post quoted a local official, Viktor Mado Waton as saying.
“Juraida was seized when she was in about a half-meter of water at the river’s mouth… Her father and brother could only watch helplessly,” Mado Waton told the paper.
According to the official, rescuers who appeared on the scene could only found the girl’s dress and a hair ribbon.
It is the second crocodile’s attack in the area over the last two months. In early December a 12-year-old boy was also eaten by a crocodile, the paper quoted the official as saying.
Local authorities are going to close down the area for swimming, Mado Waton said.
