One of the central streets in the Palestinian city of Jericho has been named after Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas said on Friday.
“Residents of Jericho decided to give your name to one of the main streets,” Abbas told the Russian president during their meeting at Medvedev’s Gorki residence near Moscow.
Medvedev, who was in the West Bank oasis city of Jericho last January, said this act demonstrates strong friendship between the Russians and Palestinians.
“Thank you, I am touched. I view this act as a symbol of Russian-Palestinian friendship, which counts its history not in decades but in centuries,” Medvedev said.
