A crowd of people is trying to storm a plane that brought Saif al-Islam, the arrested son of the late former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi to the northern Libyan town of Zintan, local media reported on Saturday.

Saif al-Islam, who was arrested earlier on Saturday in the town of Obari in southern Libya, 400 miles from Tripoli, was believed to have been sheltered in Nigeria or Mali. However none of the countries had confirmed his whereabouts.

Several Arab media outlets, including Al-Arabiya and Free Libya TV channel have already shown photographs of arrested Saif al-Islam. He is pictured lying on the sofa with his fingers wrapped in bandages and his legs covered in a blanket.

In October, Interpol and the International Criminal Court (ICC) have called for Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi to turn himself in. Interpol said both institutions would provide his safe transition to The Hague where he is accused of crimes against humanity, including murder and persecution.

Gaddafi’s regime was overthrown in October by opposition forces with NATO’s assistance after a seven-month civil war. Gaddafi, who ruled the country for almost 42 years, was captured and killed by rebels near his home town of Sirte on October 20.
