Russia-EU permanent partnership council will meet in Moscow on November 17 to discuss mutual visa-free travel, a diplomatic spokesman said on Thursday.

Russia and the EU have already reached an agreement on long-term visas for up to five years.

“Particular attention will be devoted to a visa-free travel regime for Russians from the EU, the prospects of Russia’s accession to the WTO, and the program on partnership for modernization,” said Alexander Lukashevich, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokesman.

Lukashevich said the Russian delegation would be led by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and the EU’s by its foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton.

President Dmitry Medvedev met with his German counterpart Christian Wulff in Berlin on Tuesday and expressed the hope that visas would be abandoned completely as “a rudiment of the past.” Wulff said progress had already been made.
