Indian animal rights campaigners have asked pop star Lady Gaga to wear a dress made of lettuce during her private performance in New Delhi dedicated to India’s debut as a Formula One host.
“We have already sent a letter with this proposal to Lady Gaga’s management,” Sachin Banjera, a spokesman for India’s People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) organization said.
At MTV's Video Music Awards ceremony in September 2010, Lady Gaga wore a dress and shoes made of raw beef.
“In our opinion, the singer’s appearance in a lettuce dress would become a good signal for her Indian fans. A signal that she respects their preferences,” Banjera said, adding that PETA activists were ready to craft the dress for Lady Gaga themselves.
Over 80 percent of Indians are followers of Hinduism, which encourages a vegetarian diet and considers the cow a sacred animal.
