The U.S. Navy's guided missile destroyer Fitzgerald on Saturday arrived in the Russian Far Eastern port of Vladivostok on a business trip, a spokesman for Russia's Pacific Fleet said.
"The visit that will last until October 4 aims to further develop international cooperation between the Russian and U.S. navies," Capt. 1st Rank Roman Martov said.
The visit agenda includes meetings with Russian naval commanders, officials and sailors, a friendly soccer match and sightseeing, as well as a visit to a children's hospital.
USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62) is an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer in the U.S. Navy. Named for Vietnam War hero U.S. Navy Lt. William Charles Fitzgerald, it was laid down on February 9, 1993 and commissioned on October 14, 1995.
